Grand opening of Garage clothing store

A grand opening celebration for the new store called Garage — a clothing store — was held Monday, April 17 in Jordan Creek Mall’s upper Level near the food court. The new shop is said to offer the latest styles in denim and casual looks for teen girls, the young at heart or for anyone seeking the latest fashionable pieces. The store also sells everyday basics.

The Escape

The adrenaline of Des Moines’ adventure seekers will be pumping a little harder now that a new escape game experience has arrived in the area. The Escape is the newest local venture in West Des Moines’ entertainment-experience industry. The challenge at The Escape is to find a team of four to eight people who can escape a locked room in less than an hour. Players must work as a team and use their collective wit and problem-solving skills along with the clues provided to solve puzzles and get through the locked door and out of the room. West Glen infusion

The once sagging occupancy rate at West Glen Town Center has returned to a fully leased status. The center is comprised of apartments, retail shops, eateries, drinking establishments and commercial space, and it is said to have its highest occupancy rate in years. Shoppers are being enticed to the area for its diversity of new shopping options and nighttime entertainment including, Boesen the Florist, Encore Style, Hurts Donut, Paula & Correy, Smoothie King, True Style, West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce and West End Architectural Salvage. Another wave of new businesses is slated to open soon.

The old Cabaret nightclub has been remodeled and is now a neighborhood tavern with an Irish theme called The Irish. The bar doesn’t serve food but allows nearby Coach’s Pizza to deliver.

BeerStyles Gastro Pub & Taproom is a 6,000-square-foot space occupying the restaurant space that previously contained Cowboy Jack’s. The new taproom and lounge is said to be opening in July and will offer more than 100 craft beers.

Salt of the Hearth is a new establishment with a restaurant, mixology bar, wine lounge and dessert bar.

The Operating Room is a new arcade. Cocktail slushies, cocktails and craft beers will all be on the menu. It is set to open in May.

Nick’s is best known for its breaded pork tenderloin, and the southside establishment will now offer its goods to suburban customers. An opening is scheduled for May.

American Equity Insurance is opening an office in West Glen as well. The West Des Moines-based company is set to open in March.

Snap Fitness is on the move

Snap Fitness in West Des Moines recently moved to 230 S. 68th St. in West Des Moines — next to the Push-Pedal-Pull, three blocks east of its previous location at 230 S.W. 68th St. and east of Jordan Creek Town Center. Greater Iowa Credit Union cuts the ribbon

The Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of Greater Iowa Credit Union on April 18. The ribbon was cut at 4:15 p.m., and visitors were treated to deli sandwiches and beverages as the new business was welcomed into the community. Greater Iowa Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative with approximately 31,000 members spanning a 33-county area in Iowa. Its financial assets total greater than $347 million, and its staff consists of about 90 employees. Greater Iowa offers a full range of financial services and is a not-for-profit financial institution. The credit union began in 1932. The institution’s new address is 1195 S.E. Homeowners Financial Group to West Des Moines

The Midwest presence of Homeowners Financial Group, a mortgage company founded in 2004, was recently expanded when it opened a new West Des Moines office on Jan. 30. The group is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has 35 offices in 13 states — the West Des Moines office is its first central Iowa location.

Small Business Association announces award winners

National Small Business Week, scheduled for the week of April 30, honors America’s small businesses, which currently total more than 26 million. The week was established in 1963 and includes an awards presentation focused on the contributions of persons in the small business arena. The U.S. Small Business Administration recently announced the Iowa SBA Women in Business Champion of the Year as Michelle DeClerck, president of Conference Event Management in West Des Moines. ♦
