D1 Sports offering group fitness

Former NFL Running Back Fred Jackson led two free workouts at the recent grand opening of D1 Sports in Waukee. The former Buffalo Bill is a co-owner of the new training facility, which sits inside Sportsplex West at 890 S.E. Olson Drive in Waukee. Other owners include the NBA’s Doug McDermott, NFL quarterback Philip Rivers and Tim Tebow, and a host of others.

D1’s athletic-based group fitness program allows customers to train like a pro athlete without being in pro-level fitness condition. Brewpub now pouring

From-scratch comfort food and craft beer is on the menu at a new brewpub situated on the Waukee-side of West Des Moines — Barn Town Brewing.

Enlisting at the mall

Information recently released by Col. Greg Hapgood — the public affairs officer of the Iowa National Guard — informs that the Guard opened a Career Center at the Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines on March 10.

This is the second off-base recruiting site in the Des Moines area; the other is located at 7205 Vista Drive in West Des Moines.

Lt. Col. Randy Higginbotham, the Iowa Army National Guard’s Recruiting and Retention Battalion commander, notes that the mall offers the Iowa Guard a less intimidating environment, which will allow Iowans to absorb information about the organization more easily.

The new career center is located on level 2, near Century Theatres at 101 Jordan Creek Parkway, in West Des Moines.

The mall’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Waukee Dental opens

The dust is still settling, but the construction crews have completed a new dental office at 350 E. Hickman Road in Waukee.

Waukee Dental is led by Dr. Kaisha Brown, and the new dental facility believes strong bones and healthy gums are the foundation of a beautiful smile. New Rock Valley Physical Therapy

Rock Valley Physical Therapy celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Waukee Chamber of Commerce on March 9. The new 2,100-square-foot clinic is an expansion of the business, which already operates 29 locations spread across Iowa and Illinois, including West Des Moines. The facility features new equipment for treating pain, injuries and to help provide rehabilitation.

The new Rock Valley Physical Therapy is located at 1185 S.E. Alice’s Road, in Waukee.

Community Closet offers free clothes and bedding

The Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce helped Waukee Community Closet celebrate its opening with a ribbon cutting on Feb. 21.

The new shop hopes to benefit Waukee students and families in need by providing high-quality clothing and bedding at no charge. Students are better able to focus on school when these basic needs are taken care of, according to studies.

Waukee Community Closet is located at 77 Carefree Lane, in Waukee, and is accepting donations of clothes, bedding and money.
