R Taco
A new taco joint is open in West Des Moines: R Taco. The margarita-loving taco establishment held a ribbon cutting on Aug. 18 with the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce. R Taco offers a simple menu featuring both vegetarian and carnivorous delicacies. There’s also the “famous Rusty Margarita,” if you are thirsty. The name is a shortening of “Rusty Taco,” named after founder Rusty Fenton.
R Taco may be new in central Iowa, but it is part of a chain that started in Dallas, Texas, and it has been controlled by Buffalo Wild Wings since 2014. The West Des Moines location is the 22nd R Taco in the U.S., but it is Iowa’s first. R Taco is located at 9500 University Ave., Suite 2108 in West Des Moines, near Mainstream Boutique Waukee. For more information, visit www.rtacos.com/iowa/desmoines.

Burger King
Burger King is open for business at 450 Hickman Road in Waukee, just past Hy-Vee on the south side of the road. An official ribbon cutting was held Aug. 21. The new location is one of about two dozen BKs in the area. Several job opportunities are posted online. Visit www.snagajob.com/job-search/wwaukee,+ia/q-burger+king for more details.

Gravitate
Gravitate founder Geoff Wood wanted to help other people with their startups, which is why he started his own. Gravitate is a community workplace for entrepreneurs and other self-employed, self-motivated people who might otherwise be working alone.
There was already a Gravitate location downtown, but now there are two; the Valley Junction space celebrated its grand opening on July 20 at 318 Fifth St. in West Des Moines. Wood hopes to use Gravitate’s office spaces is to give people, who would otherwise be working in solitude, the opportunity to build a community, network and work more effectively. The end goal? To become “the
entrepreneurial center of gravity in downtown Des Moines.” A third location in Ames is also in the works. For members, the explicit benefits include access to the kitchen, lounge, conference rooms and complimentary Mars Café coffee. To enter for one day,
it costs $10; coworking memberships are $75 a month. To learn more about the details and offerings at Gravitate, visit www.gravitatedsm.com.

The Black and Gold Shop
The Black and Gold Shop, the official retailer of the Iowa Hawkeyes, is now open in the Village at Jordan Creek. The store is selling just about everything a Hawkeye fan needs: Coolers, flags, T-shirts, polos, hats, water bottles, glasses, golf gear, Under Armour, tailgating essentials, mini Rosedale trophies, chairs and more. The collection of products is continually being updated with new arrivals and gear for each sport season. The West Des Moines location is the fourth in the state. The other three are in Coralville, Davenport and, of course, Iowa City. The store is open seven days a week, and orders can also be made online at
